Mostly black English knapped flints. Some of the smaller ones are sawed agate. 6D88F74D-A127-4E49-9B44-DE1DA29A02EB.jpeg764BD3EE-9B10-4F19-B739-6B2C003B8F0A.jpeg335053CC-A0A8-4D06-9600-0C9D5975407C.jpeg0197E6E0-C7CE-4CB5-995A-9984D31AFC4A.jpeg

You can’t just not post a picture of that fine of a gun without the particulars of the gun.
Haha. I figured I’d get comments about my Treebark camo. Seems all my stuff is old. My rifle is one I built from a Jim Kibler “kit”. It’s his Pre Colonial .54 cal. 44 inch Rice barrel. It takes me two trips to get the entire gun in my stand with that barrel. I did an antique finish on the steel parts. All of my other guns are browned. To me this one looks like it came from the 1700s.

Yeah we gotta have details and more pictures. The sliding patch box lid is a dead giveaway to a very nice rifle!!

All of my stuff is old.
I just post it for the benefit of the younger folks who still show an interest.
Very few of those left.

I still have more than a casual interest. At 64 I have finally given in and jumped into the history and use of these fine guns. They have a life in them just as my self bows do.

I hope I didn’t hijack your thread. I’m always thrilled to see others that enjoy our sport and heritage. You have a great collection of traditional equipment. I’ll try to send some better pics of this rifle and others I’ve built and hunt with. Thanks for the complements

Yes but the character of an item really depends on the person holding it. If that person has no respect for that item or the history of that item then it’s spirit dies with that person unless someone rescues it that respects that character. A lot of people don’t understand or respect that.

But I’ve got to get back to sewing up these flint wallets I’ve been slacking off on.

I don’t have any great pictures with detail but here’s a few. The darker rifle is the Kibler .54. The lighter gun I built from parts I got from Pecatonica River long rifle supply. It’s a .50 cal. I haven’t the skills to do any relief carving yet. Only a few incise lines. I put a few inlays in both but they too are not perfect. Hopefully my next will be better. I am concerned about my future of shooting flintlock rifles A car accident cause a hole in my right eye Even after surgeries to repair it I still have retina damage causing distorted vision. My front sights are not clearly visible anymore 249B5DFC-FB42-48A6-836F-C9A7372F1ED4.jpeg249B5DFC-FB42-48A6-836F-C9A7372F1ED4.jpeg96E97D62-BEA8-47E1-88EE-BA5468A43673.jpeg4159FB03-47A9-4F4D-9868-6CCCDEEF603D.jpeg18710864-77C4-4B22-8980-4B3E85F050B7.jpeg6F60D901-93F9-4C96-A3B0-AB267B976E98.jpeg43E7BA6A-961A-49AC-82E6-03E16C6F5310.jpeg249B5DFC-FB42-48A6-836F-C9A7372F1ED4.jpeg96E97D62-BEA8-47E1-88EE-BA5468A43673.jpeg4159FB03-47A9-4F4D-9868-6CCCDEEF603D.jpeg18710864-77C4-4B22-8980-4B3E85F050B7.jpeg6F60D901-93F9-4C96-A3B0-AB267B976E98.jpeg43E7BA6A-961A-49AC-82E6-03E16C6F5310.jpeg

Beautiful rifles. I’m guilty of being kinda of a plain guy that’s not into bling. But I believe I’m going to start putting that hunters star on all my muzzleloader rifles. I really like the way it sits in with a rifle.

That one is a copy of a John Armstrong rifle. (Sort Of). His originals had lots of decorations. I wanted the fish symbol on it. I got lucky to have the fish eyes where the barrel pin goes through. Not sure I could do that again. I’d like to put a brass patch box on one but scared I’d turn it into firewood.
I found an old coin and filed it to fit the wrist on the Kibler rifle. I bent it around a mandrel to make a curve. Then inlet into the wrist. Again but perfect. I had a jeweler engrave an F in it fir my initial. However he didn’t engrave it as heavy as I planned so it’s not easy to see
