While power fishing has its place, what I really enjoy is very nice, but very light and sensitive fishing gear. For instance, I've got a 7'6" TFO 3WT with an Orvis BB1 that is probably my favorite rod to throw. It's small enough to make small trout, bass, and panfish enjoyable, and If you get into something larger, you actually have to play the fish a bit. I'd like to put together roughly the equivalent of that in a spinning setup. Based on some initial research, I'm looking at either a St Croix Premier or a G. Loomis in a 5ft UL Moderate. The St Croix is about $100 cheaper, but this is meant to be an "ultimate" type setup, so if it's worth it I'll pay it. For the reel, what I think I really want is a 500 size Shimano Stradic. I have a 2500 size Stradic and love it. However, it looks like the smallest size stradic they make is the 1000 size. I held one at Basspro today and it seemed a little bigger and heavier than I was hoping for.
Anyone else have a similar setup and might offer feedback?
The goal is to use it to throw the smallest of spinners, rapalas, and maybe the occasional jig or something for trout, panfish, and I won't be mad if a bass bites it too.
Thanks!
