Is CWD deer safe?

We test around 1,300 deer a year these days. The number of samples has varied over the years as sampling strategies have evolved with new information.

The MO DNR wanted to cut the glands out of my buck to test it but I said no because I wanted the cape. I ate it and I am still as crazy as I used to be. Looked healthy to me. It was not a requirement but they really pushed me to let them do it.

Could they not do it without damaging the cape?

Have changed plans to hunt non-cwd areas.

Why risk it? Want big antlers, sure. Toss cwd positive meat.

So cape it, then cut out the lymph nodes in the throat..taxidermist isn’t going to use the actual neck anyway

I realize that if it was a whole carcass, but I wasn't sure if it was already caped or not. You have to cape it and pull the skull cap to bring a deer home from MO legally anyway.
