NoGa Labor Day on the AT

Took the family up to do some hiking today, ran the dogs around and wore them out...

Pulled off near Noontootla Creek Falls after hiking Long Branch Falls on the AT.

Pulled out my Douglas 3 wt. with an Abel reel that was a Christmas gift from the family, and tossed some stimulators into the crystal clear water...first time I'd used it and enjoyed casting it...

I was wet wading, and caught a few nice rainbows and had some little brookies try like all get out to hit the yellow stimmy but they were just too small and quick to get ahold of it...

Unfortunately I left my phone in the Jeep because I forgot it as I was rigging up...

Not a bad day, maybe cast for an hour and landed several 8" or so...

Had one nice 12" in a bend in the creek feeding, but he would not hit anything I threw at him...watched him for a while and then moved on upstream and he shot under a log...

It was a beautiful day out there...

Sounds like a fun trip. Probably needed that cold mountain water in all this heat.

You back in town for good now?

Great Labor Day when trout are involved!

My boy and I also spent time Fri, Sat, and today in creeks seeking them there trout. This was the largest one I landed. I was telling my boy "Bring the net! Get the net! Hurry!" when I was working on bringing this rainbow in. I always clench when a decent one is on because the hook is so tiny! LOL

I don't normally but there isn't anything secret about the Noontootla these days...the AT is like a highway...

If you say so, it’s already a shell of what it used to be. There is a reason for that… When folks ask me if I caught any any I say, “Nope”

Keep it up, then ask your kids in 10 years if they can stop off and catch some wild fish a whim

I know @NCH hates the Jeeps, but I saw more Range Rovers, Teslas, Volvos, and more than a few Jeeps on that road today...NoGa is just overrun...
I remember when you could actually DRIVE all the way into town and PARK in Helen.

Last couple of times I went, couldn't even get to parking lots until about 10pm.

NoGa is over run and it's just going to get worse. You could buy a 3 room cabin up there for 12 grand until recently. Wish I had bought a few.

I hear ya, and I definitely don't publish my high mountain streams that I hike into...if you had been there you'd have seen what I see every time I'm up there...every parking lot has a fisherman in it, every campsite has a tent, and the AT parking lots are packed...there are no secrets anymore...not with GPS and the internet...it's unfortunate...the only saving grace is most people follow the fishery stocking trucks...Noontootla Creek Farms probably has more to do with it than anything...same as the lodges on the Soque...

I hear ya but hes right. Aint no secret. People are crowded up on every national forest, state park, or senic wild place we have right now. Folks is rich. Just give it a bit. Werent so crowded up yonder in '09

Making UTV’s legal to drive on secondary roads will make the crowds worse in my opinion. Here in middle Georgia around the National Forest has grown exponentially since passage of that law

Is that a thing? I've not heard of seen that yet...I did see a LOT of SxSs, Razers, and dirt bikes on trailers this weekend...

July 1. Counties are inspecting and issuing permits to receive a vehicle tag. Dirt roads just got a death sentence. Jeep clubs are bad but these UTV will make us forget about all about the jeep crowd. I foresee more road closures on national forests in our future
