Anybody ever had any luck getting doves to come into Sorghum thats been bushhogged? Our summer plots had a bumper crop of sorghum and in one 10 acre field I was thinking about cutting strips to see if I can get the doves to come in to it.

Yes. One of the best shoots I’ve ever been on was a sorghum field

Doves love grain sorghum! He are a couple tips.

If you cut the sorghum close to the grown, there is going to be a lot of debris on the ground. Doves do not like to feed with debris on the ground! if you decide to cut it close to the ground, I advise burning the strips.

If you raise your mower high enough, you can bust the heads up. The seed will reach the ground of course but without the debris. If you do this, the sorghum will shoot up another head. It will not be as prolific as the first one, but it will be something. However, that depends on if you have enough time in the season for the head to make before a frost.

Sorghum germinates very easily. I've run my mower busting up the heads, gotten a rain, and had green between the rows because the sorghum germinated and started growing.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!
