This weekend, we're presenting The Tying Bench on Friday evening (Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.) instead of on Saturday morning. My other hobby is ham radio, and there's a once-a-year ham radio event I want to attend on Saturday morning. But I don't want to miss our time together on The Tying Bench, so this week only we'll have it on Friday evening instead!

And so...

This FRIDAY EVENING at 7 p.m., we'll be focusing on Foam Ants for Spring Trout!

Foam ants may be the perfect spring and summer trout fly. Ants are everywhere, and trout love 'em -- and foam imitations are easy and fun to tie!

Here's what you'll need to tie these great flies:

HOOK: Dry fly hook, size 14 or 16
THREAD: 6/0 black
BODY: 3mm or 2mm foam in black, brown, or tan
HACKLE: Dry fly hackle suitable for hook size. Grizzly, black, brown. Dyed grizzly will work too, even in unusual colors!
SIGHT SPOT (WING): Bright Antron-type yarn in yellow, orange, chartreuse, white -- pick a color that you can see well on the water

HELPFUL:
1) Zap-A-Gap
2) Hackle pliers (I like the Stonfo hackle pliers)

We think you'll enjoy tying Foam Ants, and we know that you'll love the way they perform on the water!

We'll see you this Friday evening!
