triangles DO make a more efficient use of space then round holes within a round cylinder.

With modern CNC machining down to very tight tolerances --everything computer controlled-- I wonder if a new revolver of this type could have a good fit of the bullet to the bore?

Sure, triangular Bullets would be rather light for their size they would have poor sectional density for long range trajectory, but for a defensive handgun intended to be used at distances of 50 feet or less it should be just fine.
