I'll have to answer at the various stages of my own life:

When I was a kid, most iconic was James West.

Early teenager it was Thomas Magnum.

Late teen to twenty-something, it was Fox Mulder.

Most of my adult life it has been Harry Callahan.

Here lately it has been Gunnery Sergeant Hartman from Full Metal Jacket. Managing people is like herding cats sometimes. This current timeframe differs greatly to what management/leadership was like 35 years ago when I started this gig. I have to fight the urge to bust into Gunny Hartman-isms with some of my people...even the high performers. I usually reserve the drill instructor routine for myself each day when rallying to go into work.

One name I haven't seen is Jim Ignatowski / Christopher Loyd. Think about how hard it must of been to create/play that character!

But, in the end, Barney Fife gets my vote. As someone said, you can still see him every day after 60+ years. Now that's staying power!

Did ya know that Festus sang with the Sons of the Pioneers?

Yep. Ken Curtis was better in Mr. Roberts. But I'm pretty sure I'll never convince Festus fans!
