A buddy gave my a turkey he got last year. Wasn't frozen properly, but didn't want to waste it. Brined it for a long time and trimmed off as much freezer burn as I could. Basted up and in the vert we go. Brought to internal temp and ready to foil, blanket and cooli kit it. Can you say TURKEY JERKY! Guess you shouldn't cook a wild bird like a Butterball. Oh well; gonna try some turkey salad wit lots o mayo.

That'un looks like it was in pretty rough shape before you started. Still looks pretty durn good. If you baste yourself with enough EW, it'll still be excellent! I bet a couple sticks of butter and an injector would do wonders for one of them ol' scrawny tough wild birds?

I find that if you inject them with a marinade and then cover with bacon they turn out a lot more tender. Good try though.

Thank you! I know he didn't have much to work with, but I told him that if it were me, I'd wrap it in bacon. He didn't listen.
Bless his heart. Ya'll don't know him like I do. HE DON'T WASTE NOTHIN. I'm looking forward to turkey salad or jerky.
