do you heat the pitch and strain it somehow before you mix it with the ash/manure? Found some pitch and its kind of dirty looking?

I found once you melt it, the bark is easy to pick out.. sort of like getting egg shell out of an egg you've put in the pan... as for the rest of the grit and stuff, unless it's just big pieces, I let it stay....

I guess it may add a little fiber (strength) to the pitch....maybe?

If it's not too big it's possible.... But I've not been at this too long. When Nick logs on tonight I'm sure he could tell us for sure...

I just flake off what I can. When I melt it it, I skim off the rest. It ain`t got to be perfect. The Stone Age people didn`t have sieves or measurin` cups. If they didn`t need em, neither do we.

DO NOT let it come to a boil while you`re heatin` it though. If you do, you`re gonna need to add a little turpentine back to it.
