what is the effectiveness of a 17hmr for coyotes and what would be the max shot distance you could take for a yote

This has been discussed over and over. Some say a .17 HMR is ok for coyotes some say no. I have a 17 HMR and love the round but it just ain't got enough energy to kill a yote without it running off. Yes you shoot one with the .17 HMR and it will probably die but unless your shot placement is perfect it will probably run off. A coyote ain't good for nothing but I still don't want one to suffer on my account. Step up to .223 or larger and give them heck.

The Coyote on the right was shot with a 17Hmr at 35yrds. My cousin shot it in the neck. I would say that 100Yrd would be the longest shot I would take on a coyote. I did take a bobcat at 182yrd.

With proper shot placement you can kill um with just about anything

I'd say 75-100 yrds max for a good solid kill.
