I can vouch for the ones that come up to your hip being hot ! I bought a pair last year , wore them for two or three hours while mowing at the lease in August or September, just about had heat stroke ! I'll be buying a pair of boots in the near future. Boots have got to be more comfortable ,,,,

I used to wear some chaps from the knees down, but they did leave the top of the foot exposed depending on what type of boot you are wearing. This time last year I tried a couple of brands of boots and ended up settling on the Irish Setter Vaprtek. Super comfortable right out of the box, and won't break the bank. Think I found them for around $160 online. The Danner Pronghorns were very well made and also very comfortable, but I was in between sizes and the Vaprtek fit me a little better.

LaCrosse Adder Scent HD 18" from midway on sale last year have served me very well. I actually wore them even during the winter.

Chippewa all leather snake boots. I`ve personally tested them against the biggest, the baddest, and the meanest, and have never had a pair fail me. Around here where I live we have all of em.

Comfortable too.

I have a old pair of Bass Pro Zip up Bayous. I pretty much wore them out. Now... I just wear a comfy pair of Danner 7" boots.

I'd rather run around the woods naked than wear snake chaps...

Snake chaps/leggings/gaiters all the way. If you do any amount of hiking you will hate a snake boot, especially in the mountains.

Turtle Skin

I have a pair of the knee high Turtle Skins gaiters. They seem pretty slick but I haven't had to try them out on a real cobra yet. Pretty expensive but cheaper than a new pair of boots.

I am gonna say it:

Never needed them. I have spent my entire youth in the woods. 28 years in the Army, about 15 years in the Infantry as a big league ground pounder - sometimes 45 days without going inside. Most of time in the SE or South America. Lots of field time...million chigger bites, sometimes hundreds of guys with me. I don't know of anyone being bit by a snake. Lots of Bee Stings. Snake Bites - I know it has happened, but not often - minuscule.

As a retiree I hunt and spend almost all my time in the Great Outdoors.

I don't worry about snakes as much as Heat Exhaustion. I believe heavy boots or chaps would increase that chance.

I have been Quail Hunting in Texas and the land owner made us where chaps, I like them for the sticker bushes...never had a problem with snakes, I saw them, but usually moving away. If i see them I used to kill them, now I let them live.

Yeah I agree Harry the probability of being bitten is slim but I work in an ER and have seen Both copperhead and rattlesnake bites and they are not pretty LOL - I'm always in the woods but since seeing the outcome of snake bites it makes me nervous.
