I live in troup county and I was weedeating around my house and noticed that I had hit two different snakes. They were in the same spot. I know that one is a ring neck snake of some sort but I'm wondering about the banded one. The head is missing but I think it is a baby cotton mouth. What do you guys think?

Ring necked snake and a juvenile banded water snake.

Juvenile cottonmouths and copperheads have a yellow tipped tail, and are colored up differently from water snakes.

Also, if snake is dead, check scales on underside: venomous snakes have a single row of scales from anus to end of tail; non-venomous snakes have a double row of scales in that area. Never checked a cottonmouth, but have checked copperhead, timber, and diamond back; all had single row of scales.
