Couple of days ago I go out and it sure is pretty but kind of cold well really just cool not to bad and it was a nice sunrise. But the birds didn't cooperate.
Well this morning I take my time getting ready. It's about 29 deg. and foggy plus we got a little real wet snow and it froze up. The main lake has to much water and I can't get more then a couple of steps off the bank before I'm to the tops of my waders. Turns out the shallows are froze over so figure I'll just try some pass shooting and see what's happening. Nothing comes our way but birds are dropping in over the hill a mile/ mile and a half away.
Well can't stand it and decide to hike over and see what's going on. Finally I make it and geese are all over the place. I'm looking at about a 2 mile pack out ( no pack frame it's in the truck) Sure enough I got birds all over me but decide to just take a few pics. Oh CRAP here comes 5 low and slow right over me and stupid me jumps up BOOM BOOM click ( 3rd shell didn't come out of the mag) amd 2 birds drop 1st one maybe 10 ft from me the 2nd about 10 ft from the 1st. Mess with the gun trying to figure out why that 3rd shell won't chamber when here comes some more just got time to drop one shell in and fire, thankfully I missed. By the time I get to the road I'm sweated up pretty good, sling a goose over each shoulder for a while then just drag them along then back over the shoulder then back to draggin. This was one of those times I was GLAD I missed that last shot. Sorry no pics of the birds all I wanted to do was hike to the road back to the truck and come home. Atleast I got some good exercise and a couple of birds so not a bad morning out, think I got back to the truck about 11 home a bit after 12.
