Window AC Units-Energy Saver mode?

Couple of the ac units we have came with an Energy Saver mode. It shuts off and comes back on as needed.

My question is this..wouldnt the surge in power needed to start the motor use more energy then just leaving it run on a set temp?

Na and I discussed this the other night and it got me wonderin.

I would say yes and no depending on how many times the unit has to off-on cycle over a given period of time, and that is of course dependent upon how well insulated you are. So somewhere along that scale is a break even point where the unit is more efficient unless all your air is going out the door so to speak. Exactly where that break even point is at, 5 cycles per 24 hrs or 20 cycles per 24 hrs prob only the manufacturer knows. We used to run 3 ac units in our place and we just left them on low at night and suffered through the days....

I think it was probably calculated to be more efficient even with the starts and stops figured in.

On eproblem you will have, is that it will be blowing across a wet coil, pushing all the humidity back into the house.

Looks like I'll hafta see how much ours cycle with and without using energy mode and go from there.
