1830’s Mountain Man beaver trap

This trap replicates a 1830’s beaver trap made by blacksmith Miles Standish for the Rocky Mountain fur trade. I tried to make it as close to the original as I could. My hunting and trapping buddy from New York and I are going to try to catch a beaver with it this Fall.

I used 3/4 round 5160. Seems to work good. The devil to beat out by hand.

Yeah I agree. Anything over 1/2 inch is power hammer time.
