Sometimes these smaller, little-known scholarships get very few applicants.

My daughter had 5 or 6 small ones and they really, really helped. We ended up about 4K per semester out of pocket and she graduated debt free. Every penny counts.

My son got a full ride from the parents of one of the young men he mentored. Cody was the first recipient of the scholarship in honor of the young fella. Sure did give him inspiration. Graduated Summa Cum Laude. Now he's working on his Masters with the same scholarship.

The other thing to keep in mind are the clubs which are where my daughter mostly received her scholarships. When you are active members of clubs such as DECA, Beta, Alpha, FFA, FBLA, etc, etc, these will put you at the top of the list. The other thing is volunteering. That one was a really good one due to the folks she volunteered with having scholarship programs.

My son needs a wollup up side the head for a scholarship and probably why he is joining the Navy.
