It happens to all of us from time to time. At least it wasn't as cold as it was a few days ago!!!!

I used snares on the Etowah River in Bartow county to trap beaver coming into our bean field. The snares were stainless steel aircraft cable and rated for beaver. Caught maybe 5 to 6 every year and never caught one that the snare wasn't tight around the abdomen just ahead of the hips. They almost always wrapped around any sapling nearby. I approached one caught around the abdomen and wrapped around a 2" gum sapling one morning and noticed that the beaver had chewed the cable completely through between the anchor and the gum sapling. He had wrapped around the sapling numerous times which was enough to hold him. Don't remember checking the condition of his teeth but they must have been in bad shape.
