You ever here them called Indian hens ?

Indian chickens is what I’ve always heard em called around here

Down here old folks called the Pileated woodpeckers wood hens, and Ivory Bills Lord God woodpeckers. I`ve eaten wood hens and according to Daddy both were good table fare.

Yep. No telling how many times I have been twenty feet up a tree on a still afternoon in the mountains and had a Pileated woodpecker start raising cane for an hour so that it’s difficult to hear anything else.
