Former Alabama cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick was arrested and cited for marijuana possession Tuesday.
An arrest report on the Manatee County Sheriff's Office web site says Kirkpatrick was arrested at 12:48 a.m. Tuesday and charged with possessing less than 20 grams of marijuana. He was released on $120 bond.
Kirkpatrick announced last Thursday he was leaving Alabama to enter the NFL draft.
Kirkpatrick is rated No. 8 overall by ESPN Scouts Inc. and is No. 22 on ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper's Big Board. He trails only LSU's Mo Claiborne in pre-draft rankings for cornerbacks.
No further information was immediately available on Kirkpatrick's arrest. Messages left with the department by The Associated Press weren't immediately returned.
It isn't clear what Kirkpatrick was doing in Bradenton, but the town is home to IMG Performance Institute, which helps athletes train for the NFL combine.
A message left by The AP with IMG wasn't immediately returned.
A native of Gadsden, Ala., Kirkpatrick was a second team All-American in 2011. He was second on the team with nine pass breakups and forced two fumbles. Kirkpatrick was also a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, handed out annually to the nation's top defensive back.
The 6-foot-2 shutdown corner started for Alabama the past two seasons and appeared in 12 games as a freshman.
