Favorite cucumber?

What's your favorite cucumber to grow? I'm not a huge fan, but I'll eat a few. Family likes em more than me. I always buy 3 or 4 different seeds, but never really remember what I put where. I just sewed some ashley, burpless, and straight 8s.

Depends on what I'm using them for. I like to grow Kirby picklers for pickling, and just regular eating. I also really like the little Persian cucumbers for general fresh eating.

I usually plant pickling cucumbers. Wife makes pickles from them and I don’t care for them fresh. Not particularly thrilled about pickles. Wife and daughter like the slicing types.

Poinsette 76 seems to do pretty well at a variety of things. I have also been growing some asian types that are really long, but slice up small like a pickle chip would.

Boston pickling to put in a jar of brine and straight 8 for general eating in any kind of cucumber salad or cucumbers and onions.

I probably wouldn't have tried them, but my wife ordered a pack of Beit Alpha seed last year. They are the best I've had for raw eating, like in salads. This pic from a seed website and looks like what we grew. Almost no seeds when picked eating size and no need to peel. Dang good taste. This year I did equal amounts of all listed above and have a few blooming.

Cool thanks. Whatever granny and dad always grew back then was short, maybe 6-8", spikey. I think that was basically about all they had back then. They would ask for cucumber seeds and that's what they would grow. I'm guessing they were straight 8s.

This type I planted last year, along with some others. I don't know if these were burpless or long green, but they were hanging full of these extra long ones. I didnt think they tasted all that great, but it was wild how they grew like that. I don't remember buying any asian exotic types.

I noticed when i got home from seed store, the ashley and straight 8 packets were loaded with plain seeds and were .99 a pack. The burpless pack had about a dozen coated seeds and were 1.99.

You have to be careful with ones that big. They cant snap off if you dont treat them carefully.
