Just finished this tome on socialism. Quite an interesting read. It's a well researched and written book on socialism from it's roots in France until the present day.

Amazing that anyone would want socialism, and more importantly, even try it. The only place it was ever really successful was the Israeli kibbutz, and that was only for a short while.

One surprise to me was the number of socialist experiments that occurred in the early US.

Definitely worth a read if this kind of historical perspective is of interest to you.

Socialism on a small scale might work for a while. But in an entire country where you don't know who is "taking" and who is "contributing" and to what extent they are doing this - then we have a huge problem.

Until individual interests kick in...

Humans are not meant to all be equal...we all have the same rights and opportunities but at the core of who we are, we have individual interests and respond to different incentives...

Seems like there were some smaller Religious communities in our History that tried it in the Midwest. We have one here in Augusta.
But those are all based on people with a more common ideal and mindset.
There would be no way for it to work in a nation of so many interests and values.
