Lifetime warranty if....

...if you exactly follow the requirements in the warranty agreement. I bought my 2018 truck with 30k miles in 2021. One of the selling points was a “lifetime warranty” that specifies that all service work must be done at the selling dealership. Since that’s four hours away, obviously that’s not practical. The warranty provided will allow service at another location as long as each service is pre approved. I’d been taking the truck to the Ford dealership, thinking that since they are a dealer, I’d remain in compliance with the warranty agreement. After three times of having to clean the oily handprints off the hood and interior of the truck, I decided to do something different, that being taking the truck to a local shop that I trust. I called the warranty administrator to ask if doing so would void the warranty and was informed that since I’d only had one service pre approved, the warranty was null and void. I tried to argue with the representative that I’d made no claims and wasn’t aware that each service had to be pre approved but would do so going forward, but he insisted the warranty was no longer in effect. I’d been told by several people (even the service writer at the dealership) that those warranties are not worth the paper they’re written on, as the administrator will look for anything to avoid paying a claim. They were right, the warranty is pretty much worthless.

I just bought a new truck and they got right mad I didn’t buy or even except the free warranties. I will just have my factory warranty that I will do my own maintenance. You can do your own oil etc with factory warranty and they might buck, but it’s the law and a lawyer letter would shut them up.

Our house came with a warranty for appliances that I just left on the table at closing. I will buy a new dishwasher before having to argue with baboons

Yep been discussed on here many times about those warranties. Unless you do exactly as the warranty says and have all receipts as prove there going to deny it. Even with that stuff they give you fits. That’s coming. From a Chevy dealer manager

From your post - The warranty provided will allow service at another location as long as each service is pre approved. Sorry, might not have made a different if this had been done. Likely not thought as they are always looking at a way to not honor the warranty.

Lifetime and extended warranty mess aint worth a flip. I got burned when I was 17 years old buying a truck. I found out a year later that 900 extra bucks I paid was worthless. I've heard countless story's just the same over the years. I wouldn't buy one on a new or used vehicle if it was 2 bucks. It will just be a waste of time

Thanks for the heads-up! I think it's ridiculous that warranty work would only be effective "at the selling dealership". Spoiler alert - Americans move a lot - it's been that way for many decades.

Insurance companies and the Vegas casinos have a LOT in common.
Lifetime warrantees are offered because the dealers know that the customer will default on the warrantee 99.9 of the time.

When I bought my new truck in February. Finance manager tried every way he could to sell me an extended warranty. I ask him is this a gm warranty ? He said no but blah blah I said no thanks. He kept on and on getting more irritated. Even to the point he said he had to make his numbers and needed 3 more to meet it. I told him in a very stern voice “ you say that one more time and I am done and will walk out ! He didn’t speak another extra word after that. It’s a shame that they pressure you into something. Think about all the people who cave of buy into that ? I think it’s wrong and shouldn’t be allowed. If these warranties where so good the manufacturer would offer them not a 2 nd party.. worthless waste of paper and money

Last truck I. Ought in 2012Dealer wanted me to buy the extended warranty.
I told him to take the cost of thie extended warranty off the price we had agreed to and he could add that much back as a line item for the extended warrenty.Said he couldn,t do that. I then ask him if he thought the truck was built well enough ,why do I need an extended warrenty. He had no answer.

You need that warranty so he can put some more dollars in his pocket.

Maybe it helps to be married to a warranty administrator at the local Nissan dealership, we both have extended warranties on our used vehicles, hers (2012) and mine (2018) have more than paid for themselves and still have miles/years to go.

They also do warranty work from other dealerships from other states and countries (Canada and Mexico), both factory and extended Nissan warranties.

These were warranties offered by Nissan and not 3rd parties, avoid those like the plague. A lifetime warranty would be hard to believe, too good to be true.
