So im in the market for a new hat for workin out in the sun. I usually wear a fishin boonie but i want a larger brim. I wear out straw fairly quick. So my question is, whats a good quality western or outback style hat that aint to hot in the summer? I see alot of wool or oil cloth cotton options out there. Seems hot? @Nicodemus @Railroader anybody?

For summer wear, you can't beat a Tilley endurable.

This one here has held up to about three years now of daily wear at work.

That bandanna was light blue when I tied it on there... ?

The label says Mentone Beach.

Found it at a local feed store.

It's been a good one, and is just now broken in... ? ?

For fishing I like a Tilley Airflow or a Filson Twin Falls hat. For hunting a wear a Filson Tin Cloth Bush Hat. It`s like the Packer but the brim is wider.

I'm bald and can't deal with head heat. I wear outdoor research wide brim hats. I'm outdoors typically 10hrs a day. They work like a charm
Yup i got no mop on top either so i need a good hat. I always wonder do those mesh tops burn ya if you are hairless?

Believe it or not I wear one of the straw hats that you can get in Panama City. I bought one a few years ago while we were down there and I needed a hat so I picked up a cheap one. I wore it the rest of the summer and it did well. When we went back to the beach I bought 3 or 4 of them. They last decent and are fairly comfortable and cheap. When it gets worn out I throw it away and pull another out of the closet.

They're mesh tops covered in sunproof fabric. The flaps let air in but keeps sun out. I use the tan ones

Aint seen one in years but used to be all the rage at skeet shoots around the south to see folks in a pith helmet with a solar panel and fan in it....wet the head ban and that thing would feel like you had a ton of AC blowing on your head.

Outdoor Research, as mentioned does make a lot of hats. I wore a oil hat on a canoe trip in the summer and the oil kept running down my face, lol. It looked like one of those Ultimate Australian bush hats where you could snap up one side.

I have a nice straw hat but it's made of paper and it can't get wet. I thought that was odd but a lot of straw hats are made of paper.

I always wore a big straw hat when working in my yard or garden. I still have a couple of them around when I need them.
