I bought the tapered 10ft redfish/bonefish leader and ran 14.9 lb tippet. It has been a PAIN to manage. Dropped the tipper down to 1ft and it was casting much better. What do you run for reds?
I've used everything from 3 piece knotted diy leaders to straight 18 lb. mono--rod length. I try to get'em in and get'em back out quickly especially during the July and August hotwater spring tides in the grass.
Most of the flies I throw at reds have enough mass and momentum to where there's not a dependence on the leader to turn the fly over and out.
That leader you bought is for very clear, shallow water more likely found in south Florida than any water in coastal Georgia. A 9ft straight leader is all you need in Georgia.
I'll be fine fishing south fl in less than a week so I guess I need to suck it up and figure t out.
