Well after selling my FA 97 and Contender barrel in .22 Mag I find myself with a couple thousand rounds of .22 mag ammo (I bought it when Reed’s had a great sale on Federal 30 gr V Shok ammo). I have found a circa 1960 6” Model 48 in excellent condition for about the same price as one of the new “Classic” editions minus a lock of course. I know a few of you have model 48s old and nee, so how do y’all like them?

Love ‘em!
A lot of velocity is lost with the short barrel. However, in your instance, that’s good! Velocity from the pistol is roughly equivalent to a .22lr from a rifle barrel.
But! Do wear some ear protection!
It’s kinda loud.

One of the reasons I chose the 48 over the 17 was because with the velocity from a 6” barrel I will at least have .22 LR velocity and won’t blow apart a squirrel like a .22 mag rifle sometimes does
