No, I don't think that many Georgians are spending 100 million on gambling a year in addition to the state lottery.

Don't get me wrong. We could legalize every vice there is out there. Drugs, gambling, and prostitution could all be legalized and we'd have very little problem with it except for one thing. The federal and state government won't enforce the laws on the books and won't make people live with the bad decisions they make so they make the rest of us pay extra taxes to take care of and clean up after these people or they do like California, Oregon, and Washington and do nothing at all and let society degrade into a world of poop covered sidewalks and rampant shoplifting.

The latter will happen before government makes people live with the consequences of their bad decisions.
What I've seen first hand in my area since Harrahs built the casino in Murphy,NC the past decade or two is a bunch of rich and/or retired snobby folks have moved in. And they're trying to get their hooks in on local politics. It would be nice if that was spread across the state instead of being concentrated on the state border counties. They would be keeping all that money in this state, staying put and supporting more local businesses.

I don't even gamble either. Not even play the lottery.

It's concentrated there because the Cherokee don't have to pay taxes on the Casino or the money it takes in.

I don't go to casinos, I know better than to throw away my money. The state's lottery system has taught me the error of my ways.
We should accept this proposal only if it lowers our personal taxes. That should be an amendment. Our real-estate taxes should be reduced at a minimum of 90%. I would understand a 90% decrease in our real-estate tax, if they could make up the difference in a user tax. Actually, this new casino should eliminate all of my personal properties tax. Just think of all the billions the state would benefit from casinos.
Yeah, I'll vote for it, if they eliminate my forced taxation.
Now that theres a pipe dream if I ever heard one!

That's exactly where we should start!
Alabama ain't no Cherokee country. Why ain't they pay'n no taxes.
That's Choctaw country, that's why. Georgia is Creek country, what's wrong with the Creek getting their fare share?

Casinos
We would stop at them while driving the semi. Had truck parking and great buffets cheap for the gamblers.
My wife would spend a few bucks on the games.
Makes no difference to me. Either way I don’t think it will effect taxes. That’s a smoke screen. The government is tring to get all it can from anywhere and spend like there’s no tomorrow.
We the people are not in charge of any money spent from taxes or collected.

Nothing wrong with the lottery. Every time you play, according to the gubermint, most of that money you spend goes to by school supplies for the little booger eaters:banana:

I fail to see how costs come if you don't bring something into the state.
But, this will pass and we'll have to fund an extra something because of this. Whether it's higher taxes to support the working poor who spend money they should be using to pay living expenses on gambling instead or higher local taxes to fund a local casino that got a tax break, it will not be a positive for the middle class just as the lottery hasn't been a positive for the middle class.
The cost of living is high enough as it is and now we're bringing in something that folks will waste money on and need extra services from the government because of it. Just makes no sense to me.
You said it’s coming but it’s already here.

My point is if someone is wanting to pay a voluntary tax why not let them? If it’s going on in adjoin states then we are just funding these states. Makes no sense.
. I don't know what they'll be, but it will, you can be sure of that.
If it’s coming, let them pay it.

It’s like an entry level drug. Those that are true gambling addicts do it online, can’t wait for a casino visit, and the state reaps no benefit.

Most casinos not colocated with a vacation destination are full of truckers and silver hairs. MS is a perfect example, riverboats are tied up across the river from Helena, AR. MS is collecting all the taxes from the AR folks.

Those that will play the most are the ones who can least afford it so we're all going to end up paying for those unintended consequences. When they show up, and they will, I'll remind y'all. My guess at one of them will be the Pre-K program this is going to fund. It's going to grow and grow because the funds will be available for it and the number of poor that need it will increase.
I just don't believe in giving extra money to the government, voluntary or otherwise, instead of it being spent on businesses or saved and invested.

Anyone voting no loves communism and restricting the freedom of others.
That's like saying that anyone voting yes loves bigger government and loves giving bigger government more money. Neither are true.

Let it come if that's what the people want, but be aware of the unintended consequences of it and know that this same government is going to take more money from you eventually because it won't allow people with no self control to live with their bad decisions.
