How fast do you pull live blue backs or large shiners for stripers?

the cooler weather is giving my the urge to go striper fishing but I do not have an electric trolling motor on my big boat. I have a gas trolling motor that will move me about 0.7 or 0.8 mph. Is this slow enough for pulling freelines?

That's about the right pace, IMO. Shiners will put up with faster speeds than BB's. Also, if you're pulling shiners go with medium instead of larges, or maybe a combo of both.

The shiner bite develops as the fish start to gorge on small threadfin shad. In some cases, they will lock in on those tiny baits to the exclusion of everything else. The small shiners to a good job emulating that small bait.
