Telecheck Results 2024 **5/16 Update. Final Numbers**

sea trout

2021 Turkey Challenge Winner 2022 biggest turkey ?
4 spots in Ga I hunt now have had a decline over the past 10 years.
All 4 have been holding steady at their lower numbers for the past few years.
Not as plentiful with birds as over 10 years ago and beyond, but holding ok with their medium amount of birds.
1 spot seems to be slowly rising even.

5th place would be here at the house in southern Banks co. We used to have them around the house, up and down all our local rural roads they would be in ag fields all spring.
Southern Banks co birds are pretty much gone!! That's in farms and tracts that were turkey hunted moderately, turkey hunted lightly, and not turkey hunted AT ALL!
The turkey population decline does not descriminate according to hunting pressure in my unworthy observational opinion

Show me this well managed property I hunt. I hunt permission on unmanaged farms and fields. The properties that I manage are for the well off to enjoy, not me. Sorry things aren’t going your way, but down here the “glory days” were not super high in population early on. As I have stated, tell a friend how bad it is. That might help.

Just out of curiosity, how long have you been turkey hunting? Was it the days of plenty when you started?
80s and 90s were my early years in the turkey woods and the mountains were booming with turkeys. I'd say mid 90s was peak.

Much different here. There were never none, but the early to mid 80’s were the restocking. The boom happened early 2000’s. If you can get me on a highly managed place down here I’m certainly interested though.

But but but the state reduced our hunting opportunities because WE are the ones that caused the decline...

Numbers finally updated

26 days into the season (4/23) there have been 9,135 turkeys checked. That is an average of 351 per day and puts us on pace for 17,215 total

The overall birds killed per day average has dropped by 70 in the last 8 days.

Over that 8 day span from 4/15 - 4/23 the average number checked per day was down to 154

I'm thinking the total numbered checked is going to be somewhere around 12,500

Take 2022 out of the mix and, so far, nothing seems to have changed. 2020 (and really at least part of 2021) doesn't count. Nobody had to go into the office. Natural that more turkeys were killed.

But 23 and 24 are right in line with 2016-2019...even with less days to hunt and a lower limit. Will be interesting to see what next season brings. But, so far, it doesn't seem like the changes have accomplished anything.
