Thanksgiving 2022

You did good!

I love key lime pie! I made it two years ago when I hosted Thanksgiving. I had most of my extended family in.

I did Gulf Coast seafood instead of the traditional menu. I got two bushels of raw oysters, did boiled gulf shrimp with cocktail sauce, and deviled crabs. We watched football, and when it warmed up, we got in the boat and cruised the ICW to Mobile Bay.

I did have chicken tenders, salad and macaroni for the kiddies. But no turkey, no dressing, no cranberry sauce.

The womenfolk clucked about my choice of menu, but the only real complaint came from my brother’s dear wife. She lamented my lack of class in only having cans of Bud Light and boxed wine. I privately observed that it had not stopped her from having five or six glasses.

I’m proud to say that my Thanksgiving broke the mold. Last year we had smoked brisket and bbq sides.
Family let's me go "over the wall" so to speak on Christmas and pretty much any other git 2 gether (done LCBs, seafood fries that included all three food groups.. shrimp, fish, and oysters..etc.), but as far as they are concerned the "T" in Thanksgiving stands for turkey. But I do change it up from year to year.. fried, roasted, grilled, or smoked. They never know what they're showing up for.

We won't spend a lot of money for a Thanksgiving meal and it surely will not be on any pot pie, I hate those things. We might just go over to Morehead City and have turkey and dressing at the Cox Family Restaurant, they serve the best turkey and dressing I have ever eaten anywhere.

These 49 cents a pound turkeys are way below cost, stores use those as a lost leader to get people in, but make up for the loss on other items. When I retired from the grocery business we’d sell turkeys for about half what we paid for them.

If I could find some turkeys that weren't frozen, I buy several and quarter them up for use throughout the year. All I'm finding are frozen though.

Someone gave me the bird on Monday. My boss, and a HoneyBaked Ham Turkey. With gravy. the kRoger turkey would have been .79/lb.

Fresh smashed redskins $5. kRoger canned crescent rolls $5. Frozen greenbeans and with bacon and mushrooms ~10$. pumpkin bread with choco chips For dessert ~12$. Thanks to the Skynyrd’s free bird, think we’re in this for under $50.

invited 4 over. 1 accepted. 3 rona rejects, both parents battling it. And a pocket beagle will be coming over too.

wish the best for all y’all. safe travels. Good company. God bless.

Prices do suck right now but dont let em ruin your celebration! No matter what you spent those lists are the feasts of kings in any time other than modern America! We are having mashed taters, sweet tater pie, cornbread, collards, deer backstrap, a pork roast, and a couple other things. Most all of it grown here at our place.

If you've got METV they are doing all of the turkey day shows from the 60's - 80's.

You have a very good excuse for buying a new toy. A bandsaw would cut up frozen turkeys in any portion you might want. And, you’d still have the saw.
