Wife loved my grandma's Mac n cheese. The top looked like that so I showed her this pic. She asked if you give out recipes? Said you might if asked. Then she said please ask her and also how do you get the cheese like that on top? So would you mind letting her know if it's not a family secret? Thanks.

Sorry. I just saw this. We usually make it when the Vidalia's are in season and freeze half. Don't use croutons or fancy cheese. Just toasted french bread and provolone cheese on top. Put bowls in the oven on broil until cheese is brown and bubbly.
