This Saturday (August 13) at 10 a.m. Eastern on The Tying Bench, we'll be tying the Sheep Fly. It's one of those classic Appalachian patterns that has endured, and once you tie and fish it you will see why!

I hope to see you there!

Materials needed to tie the Sheep Fly:

HOOK: 2XL nymph hook, size 6-14. I like size 10.

WEIGHT (optional but recommended): Fine lead-free weighting wire, sized for the hook you are using.

THREAD: 6/0 black.

TAIL: Fibers from a brown hen feather. Many types of feather fibers can be used here.

BODY: Gray dubbing (muskrat). A somewhat coarse blend is good!

LEGS (HACKLE): Brown hen feather

WINGS: Two grizzly feather tips

Other things you will need:
1) Dubbing wax

Steve shows you how to tie the fly step by step. Goes slow enough for you to tie as he goes along

BTW, not trying to take anything away from Steve, he did a nice job to. I always like to see the originator or several people tie a pattern. Kevin, his dad, and uncle learend to tie the fly from the originator
