Yep.
His immune system was compromised by recent cancer treatments...
Even so, I always get a little leary down there on the panhandle this time of year. In realty It can happen anywhere. Even the tallapoosa River...
I think it is pretty much everywhere and we have all been exposed to it. Just a matter of who gets it and who don't.

Seems like the warmer the water,the better chance of bacteria being present.
Development in estuary areas probably pollutes a lot of what used to be clean water,too.
