Exactly my point. Technology itself isn't bad but integrating or replacing humans with technology beyond normal human capabilities or causing human capabilities to be reduced could be. Like most things, we have to use moderation and find the ethical balance.
I'm glad I'm not in charge cause most of the time growing up if something moronic needed lit, I was often the one to do it.

Someone said "If AI gets out of the box, it will probably because some nerd hopped up on Red Bull pushed the button just to see what happens".

It's the idea that humans will integrate with technology or be replaced by it.
Replace a human,,,,,,,…hmmmm………

I will trade you my mother in law and $1000 for a new digital coffee pot.

Can I put a micro chip in her head? If I download her consciousness to the Cloud she might show up on every screen you have.

Say it aint so! I thought we could only use the extreme of things to base points on.....

I know an engineer who designs air foils at Ga Tech. He loves talking about them. I love listening to him talk about them. They're mostly used for flight surfaces on missiles.
Ok?

My point is that many of the people working on these projects just like the work and are unconcerned with what it's used for.
Thats the problem. They dont care what happens.

Side question. Just curious but would you care to share your age? Not an insult just a question.

We just turn matter into energy. Why couldn't a machine? In a roundabout way we're getting our energy from sunlight stored in the things we eat. A machine could get it right from the source.
Can you imagine gathering energy straight from the sun without energy hungry steps involved as the "middle men" in the equation? It would be near maximum (or maybe even maximum) efficiency. (y)

Aw come on. Only good things can come from chasing this butterfly as far as it goes.
I don't know. I saw that documentary about Cyberdyne Systems and that other documentary about the Borg.

Except the sun would look pretty ugly with that Dyson Sphere around it.

After a while we'd get used to it.
Or who knows, maybe some technology even better would be used.

I think it's important to turn over rocks and break things open to see how they work and to invent new things.

It is. It is equally important to consider your actions in life.

Apropos of this discussion Lex Friedman was a guest on Rogan very recently and this was discussed. Maybe that’s what started this conversation, I haven’t read the whole thread and have no idea. He’s so optimistic about the whole thing and he works on AI for a living but I also think he’s just a good guy and can’t fathom any of it being directed in ways that aren’t good.

I started the thread because I watched a great debate on it linked in the first post. I hadn't gotten to that part of the Rogan interview. I'll look for it. For some reason, YouTube has been filling my Recommended with AI/ChatGPT doom, end of the world videos.
