Nothing wrong with that. Plenty of religions in the world, ergo religion serves a purpose for many people. As long as none of these religions are mandatory or are "above the law" and their dogmas are kept of out the public-school curriculum, then people should have the right to believe what they want in the U.S.A.

Many countries that are very religious are low-income/substandard medical care/low education countries. It's easy to sell hope to people that need it the most. It's easy to sell "just rewards for the wicked" for those who feel that they have been denied justice. There could be other reasons, but I just covered the basics of the top of my head.
