Truck decisions

I don’t believe the new 2024 and up Toyota motors are going to be as dependable as they once were. Do a little research….Toyota has changed up.
No disagreement there-When you start adding turbos and gears to the transmissions, along with the shut off crap they have now, all that is is more wear and tear, which naturally will lead to reduced dependability. Even still, I’d get one as they would still more than likely be more dependable than most others.
If I finally decide to pull the trigger in a year or two, it will more than likely be a 14-17 Tundra with the right engine/transmission combo that has the reliability I’m looking for. A buddy of mines some is a tech for Toyota and has shared which ones to seek out and which ones to possibly avoid-similar to @transfixer ‘s comment regarding some of the newer 6 speed tranny‘a having some issues.
Gas mileage won’t be a concern of mine as it won’t be my daily driver, but an overland build.

I've mentioned this before, but for anyone considering a new vehicle, especially a new truck , whatever manufacturer you choose, all the new "improvements" they brag about are not designed to get you more durability or reliability ! they are only to either increase customer comfort or to increase fuel mileage, and any improvements to increase fuel mileage will ultimately decrease durability and reliability ! any other improvements will generally mean an increased cost of repair should something happen

Toyota is getting away from the naturally aspirated engines. They are going with the turbo's just like Ford & Chevy. It starts in 2024 models I believe. They are more or less disposable, no more 300k miles. Here is a good video explaining the switch and how it effects us. I'll hold onto my 03 model Tacoma.

I have put 1500 miles on my 2023 TRD PRO in 7 months. It sits in the garage and I drive my 2012. I bought it only because I would need a truck in a few years and wanted the older technology. It doesn’t have start stop tech. Not sure how they got around that in 2023 but more reason to buy that model. Maybe by time it’s a daily driver I will be used to how bright it is in the sun :bounce: IMG_2469.jpeg

Sooner or later they will all go back to normally aspirated engines for pickup trucks. It's going to happen because the workin' men ain't gonna put up with this crap. The first manufacturer to go retro is going to make bank.

I believe they will as well, but it may not happen until the Government relaxes those CAFE standards , those regulations are adding a lot of $$ to the cost of a vehicle , and costing the consumer a lot of $$ in repair costs after they've owned the vehicle for a while ! its further proof the Government could mess up a really nice enjoyable dream if they were involved in it !

Thank you everyone for the advice and input. We just got the accident report on Friday after waiting 2 weeks. Stockbridge PD really took their sweet time with it. Now, I had to file a claim with my insurance due to the company vehicle the turned me sideways and poor guy who tboned me, their insurances will be having the good ole finger pointing seminar for more than likely quite a while. Hopefully Allstate will be quick and get my process completed so I can get my life back to normal. Looking like my decision will be between a Tacoma and an f-150. I’ve found quite a few 21-22’ tacomas for really good prices with low miles and think that’s the way I’m leaning. I appreciate everyone here!

My biggest complaint with my 2020 tacoma, uncomfortable seats! Be sure and take some time sitting in it. Like I said earlier, I liked my frontier more.

If you can find a an older model Ridgeline I’d recommend it. Mine just hit the 300k milestone and I love it, still. I’m overdue for a new truck, but I LOVE my beat the heck out of Honda!
My next truck will be a new Nissan. My best friend just got a new Ford. Beautiful but i didn’t fall in love with it. I’ll never own another GM since mine ran me through tranny hades. A Toyota over the other two for sure, but any Honda will be a win! You already know that!
