We had a cool, but very productive trip on the river yesterday. Historically, this is the time frame that we really start seeing a good push of white bass on the lower end of the river. River conditions with the recent heavy rains have been very bad and are still not ideal, but the fish are definitely there if it ever gets totally right. This is going to be two years in a row that you will really need to be looking for those oddball, low current areas. These type areas are holding a variety of fish including white bass, crappie, hybrids, and largemouth. You never really know what the next cast will bring. Big things should start to happen in the next 2 1/2 weeks leading to the first major full moon of the run.
Water temps yesterday were in the 52 range. They had been as high 56 early last week. The fish are biting a variety of lures, but small lipped crankbaits, such as a Berkley Flicker Shad, are working very well. Black/chartreuse soft plastics are a good choice as well.
