My brother and I are going to purchase a new camcorder for my father for Christmas. He has an old analog that has served him well in the past but the thing has seen its better days.

I have been doing research on the different models but I can't decided on which one to buy.

Price range is under $400.

Sony, Canon, Panosonic, Samsung??????????

I'm going to buy the Samsung SC-D103 tonight.Sam's has them for 288.72,Best Buy wants 329.00. Best Buy says they will meet and beat that price by 10%. So,that means I'll pay about 260 for it. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it will do what I want it to do.

Can't go wrong with sony. I bought one a couple of years ago when my son was born. It's small enough to put in your pocket. Picture and sound are DVD quality. I highly recomend it. I never use it, but a cool feature is that it has an infared light and night vision :D

Consumer Reports recommends the Sony . The digital hi8 is highly recommended as a best buy. I have owned a number of these camcorders and they have been trouble free.
