Yamaha 2 Stroke ski gurus

Have an 03 Yamaha 1200xlt 2 stroke. Had the starter solenoid changed a couple months ago. Son took it out a few times, had some running problems, and battery went dead, Went to replace battery, and it melted the battery terminal. Apparently a bad short, it’s a long shot but any ideas??

I can’t find anyone up here that really wants to work on 2 strokes. It’s been at a shop up here for over a month, he called today and said I needed to find somebody else to work on it!!

Do a google search and see what you can find on this. There are some sites on the internet that relate to 2 stroke problems. Have you ever replaced the battery cables? Resistance will cause things to overheat badly.
