Zone 3 Gator Tips

Drew Zone 3 this year. Three years ago hunted Zone 4 as rookies and did not find many gators... probably looking in the wrong places.

Planning on Cheehaw or Blackshear but open, I'm not looking for anyone's top secret honey hole but I would appreciate any tips on general direction...

Also, in the past I have only hunted after dark, but I see some folks mention using rod & reel rigs on open water gators when there is still some daylight? The DNR guide mentions this too.

Thanks! Looking like some folks are already bringing in some nice gators only a few days into the season!

There are some good ones from the Albany power dam back up the river. You`ll have to stop when you get to Abram`s Shoals unless your boat is small enough to drag over the shoal, but you`ll have some fair to good hunting in that stretch of river. Some interesting cypress backwaters that pull of the river too. You can put in at either Cleve Cox ramp or Cromartie Beach ramp.
