Thanks for the compliments everyone. Mother Nature did most of the work by supplying the beautiful wood to work with. The red stain is caused by the box elder bug that live around these trees and ends up killing them. It is my favorite wood to turn when I find some with the red stain in the wood.

DO you turn bowls?

Shotgun, Yes I turn open bowls as well. Here are a few I've turned. While turning open bowls is easy, they are a pain to sand properly so I don't turn many anymore.

There was a lady on facebook trying to get rid of a box elder log. It was a whopper. Maybe 20" in diameter
