Best Georgia County to retire to

Looking to work a few more years and retire to somewhere a little quieter, more rural. Got a few more, maybe 5-6 years to work and get my youngest through school. I've lived most of my life in Carroll County but it's growth in traffic, and population is starting to outgrow me. Years back unused to go to town and know everyone in the store. Now I don't know my neighbors three houses down the road from me. So me and the wife are gonna start looking. I'm open to north or south Georgia. Does Mayberry still exist out there? Best counties with the rural life, church, low crime. Suggestions on where you like and why.

I've lived here all my life, my relatives were from far North Ga, Blairsville, Young Harris, Gainesville, Cleveland, but now those places are too crowded, I've never been a fan of South Ga much, too many gnats, skeeters, and copperheadedrattlemoccasins for me, and I love trout streams too much , can't find those in South Ga, lol not sure where I'd want to retire to ?

Probably 100,000 of them came from somewhere else. That's probably true now for 60,000 of the 110,000 that live in Carroll

Carroll is like Douglas county now, we've got the overflow from Atlanta out here now, although we're probably worse off than you are in Carroll.

I'm with you on this. Love that area myself. I worked up that way in the 80s, but man, had it changed. The four lane Appalachian parkway out of Cherokee County made Ellijay and Blue Ridge much more accessable to metro Atlanta. Last time I talked with an old timer up in Blue Ridge he said lots of folks from Florida are buying property and moving there. Wonder about Rabun County?

If you want to retire where there are few people then you will need to get use to gnats, skeeters or anything else people want to avoid. Below the fall line or go west of Georgia.

Rabun county gots lots of "half backs." Lots of good places to move from carroll county, but not good places to list on a public forum. Look around and you will find your place. Just dont tell anyone.?
