I have Boxers. I have not been without one for over 35 years, the majority of that time I had two (everyone needs a buddy). Boxer are high energy dogs and love companionship. Two out of my last three have been rescue dogs.
I don't think you ever get over losing your companion, I think you learn to except it and move on. I think about the ones I have lost over the years often.
