i caught this little bass at West Point Monday while Flyfishing for panfish .
I’ve never seen a bass with a tail like this .
Anybody know what it is ?

Yeah, I'd say baby spot. A lot of juvenile bass have those colored tails.

Ive caught a lot of baby LM bass and a few small creek bass , over my 60+ years of fishing and I’ve never seen one with a tail like this one .
LM don't have it at all, I don't think. Spots, shoalies, smallmouth and some others do, to some degree.

I'm gonna have to go with LMB here. Just a very dark/vivid coloration on the tail. Did you feel his tongue?

You know , I just remembered recently reading that DNR stocked LM bass fingerlings in West Point .
this may have been one of those .

A tiny smallie, same tail. Who knew!
I never noticed that colorful tail on any Juvies all these years.
