How much is entry level work in your industry and area

I work for a state agency and they just raised starting pay to a minimum of 40K a year.
Let me clarify not all state agencies around here have that minimum starting pay. We got a new agency head in July and it was his idea and several people in the technical/IT got various raises as well.

In my local market, computer science / IT graduates are making 50 to 75K at their first job. After three years of good performance they are right at six figures.

The main problem in our area is employee retention. Starting pay goes up with sign on bonuses, but current employees stay stagnant. My dept. just went through negotiations for pay and time off. We got a raise but lost about half our time off, it’s been 8 months and we still haven’t settled the time off issue. Currently takes 3 months to earn one shift off. And we are paid 19.25 hours vacation for a 24 hour day off. More litigation coming. Yay, government.
