How much is too much

A farmer was having trouble with thieves in his watermelon patch. He decided to put a stop to it,so he put a sign up saying "one of these melons was injected with poison." Nobody bothered them, but somebody put up a sign next to his that said "now there's two."
Nobody ate any melons.

I may have you beat. Does your town shut for 2 days down and have a watermelon parade each year?
Cordele doesn’t shut down, we do have a parade and several watermelon days events along with a festival. Cordele is legitimately the Watermelon capitol of the world.

I got killed one night in a watermelon patch, I ever tell yall about that one ? :biggrin2: .

I had just moved to the Carolina's and had bought a couple real trashy coonhounds. My buddy had a couple soup hounds too. We decided to go over to his dads and go coon hunting. His dad took us down some ol sand roads to a huge watermelon patch. The dogs struck, but I could tell by the way my buddy and dad were acting...we didn't exactly have permission to be there. Well the dogs struck something and were picking em up and laying em down. Jackie & his dad got to fussing about something and I couldn't hear the dogs very well. So I walked off about 40 yards to myself so I could hear better......about that time one of the nitroglycerin bombs went off about 3 foot right behind me. GAWD ALMITY.......I thought the farmer done shot me.:eek2:. I grabbed my chest with one hand and the seat of my britches with the other and took off.::gone:When them boys got thru horse laughing me and run me down...they explained what it was and the farmers used them things to keep the coon and deer run off. I hadn't never heard of such a thing. Don't reckon I been in a melon patch since, buy mine at the farmers market. True story.

Anyone remember the watermelon day at Georgia State Farmers Market , they would make sure everyone got a free slice . Back then I know is kinda dumb to say this but watermelons were 3 for a dollar . But now a good one is about $8.00 each at Publix but thats fair in todays economy .

Nowadays though, in my old age, I just eat the watermelon in the field, climb the fence and go home.
That's what I use to do in a strawberry patch as a kid til that mean old farmer got a red rider BB... He was accurate out to about 150 with those iron sights...:ROFLMAO:

I love watermelon last one I bought from Walmart was a biggun paid 7 bucks for it not fit to eat. Too much nitrogen had been added to the crop.

We rarely see anyone that sells watermelons and other good farm products beside the road anymore, I guess that's mostly a thing of the past now.

man selling watermelons in the parking lot, had a truck bed full.
$10 for a red about the size of a soccer ball.
$15 for an orange meat, I always called it yellow, about the size of a basket ball or so.
$20 for a red meat oblong old timey type. Not the great big one but 18-20 inches long.
Seems way too high.
How much y'all pay? Normally. Not when a craving hits.

Those sound like a bargain….compared to growing your own…or paying bail $ for stealing ‘em
