Hybrids?

So if you have a Hybrid vehicle, say a Rav 4 or CRV and the battery dies. Can you still drive it and just not get the benefit of the electric motor?
What if the electric motor dies?
I was just wondering of either of those systems fail if it still works like a conventional powerplant.

From my experience of only checking a few hybrids with failing hybrid battery, yes the gas engine will work if you have a good auxiliary battery but it may operate in fail safe or other reduced performance. On some Toyota hybrids I have checked the hybrid battery may still work with failure of only 1 or 2 section of batteries of the 14 cells of hybrid battery pack.
