I'm tired of throwing flares away when expired

FWC regulations state:
  • Vessels 16 feet or longer must carry at least 3 daytime and three nighttime visual distress signals (or 3 combination daytime/nighttime signals) at all times when on coastal waters.
You buy a pack of flares and they MAY be good for a year before expiring depending on how long the store has had them.

What do you use, other than flares, that meet the requirements?

Batteries (included) have a shelf life of 20 years.
It made sense.
$80 1 time and done or $25+ every couple of years.
Worth that just to get 20 year batteries.

As long as you have the correct number of in-date flares on board, you can keep all the expired flares you want on the boat, unless the law has changed.

Little added insurance if you need it some day.
