Kill switch on Johnson outboard

Is it possible to put a kill switch on a Johnson seahorse 25 hp tiller pull start. Mine just has a button to push to kill it. But aren’t you supposed to have a kill switch if you’re putting into open water. Just curious. Thanks a lot.

I was told a while back that it depends on the year the motor was made, can't remember the cut off year tho.

If it has a pull choke you could tie a cord around the knob and pin it to yourself. That should at least slow it down some. A strong enough cord would get you a ride along so you didn't loose the boat.

Even if not needed I would definitely add one if possible. Carp happens fast.
