I'm sure over the past 200 years this land has gone from woods to farm fields to clear cuts a few times. Found a pocket knife buried down about 4 inches. After a quick cleaning could make out Q with a crown and STEEL on the tang. Then noticed #51 on blade. The knife was a good 200 yards from any old homeplace. Probably dropped by a logger. From researching found that it was a Queen Steel pocket knife. Also found what look like a small button and oddly enough an old shoe. This detecting is scary find myself fishing less than I should be. Button may or may not be close to one I found online from 1800s. Knife dates to 1958-60

The Oracle
My luck, I'd find a live artillery shell from the War of Northern Aggression and blow myself up.

I kilt a LOT of big deer right behind the old Ogeechee WMA. Had to go thru the WMA to get to my gate. Behind Rocky Branch Baptist Church. I used to get my water there.

You can find a lot of information on vault.georgiaarchives.org. I discovered there were two home places from the 1800's on the land I am hunting.

Wow! Think of the last person that wore that. Very cool!
I'm thinking the plantation owner was probably civil war vet made it home and wore old shirt or jacket while working. Found the button about 50 yards from homesite next to the creek

Eagles on buttons would have been a no no in GA and the Yanks made the Southerners who walked home after the war cut the militry buttons off their uniforms.

I’m guessing because the eagle is our national bird? Did the confederacy have a national bird? If so,what was it?
